What they say, how I respond (in bold), and then…always wrong.
You must fix yourself
“I shall reclaim what was taken!”
No, not like that
You must change yourself
“I will reinvent myself!”
No, not like that
You must believe in yourself
“I will take a leap of faith!”
No, not like that
You must have confidence in yourself
“I feel beautiful!”
No, not like that
You must let it all go
“I won’t talk about any of it!”
No, not like that
You must use affirmations
“I am not broken!”
No, not like that
You must heal your own way
“Yes, I will!”
No, not li–
Oh but I say YES! Yes, like that!
Do it your way. No matter what you do, someone will be of the opinion that you are doing it wrong. So, look inward. What do YOU need? How do YOU need to heal?
Take the advice and information you can use, and leave the rest. You are not obligated to heal like anyone else. Your journey is yours, and the goal is for YOU to be healthy and healed. Choose your steps toward the healthiest, happiest you.

If you’re just joining me: I’m a survivor of complex trauma and am on my healing journey. I share openly and candidly of my experiences with child abuse, neglect, sexual assault, teen pregnancy (and teen marriage), domestic violence, and all the complicated living that comes with it, alongside the beauty that is life. This whole blog comes with a TRIGGER WARNING. Almost everything I share is pretty much stream of consciousness writing. I am not a doctor or counselor (but I am a trauma informed coach and advocate).
