About the Book

The First 22 Years Are the Hardest: A Memoir
coming of age with a baby on the hip and hope for happily ever after

By Angela Giles Klocke

Memoir: By the time she’s thirteen, Angela Giles Klocke has already been the victim of sexual assault and child abuse at the hands of different people who are supposed to love her, and she is living in poverty when she meets Dewayne. Desperate for a different life, for love and happiness and safety, she clings to him for her “happily ever after.” Instead, he uses up all her teen years and brings her into her twenties a shell of a woman. But Angela never gives up on her hope for what can be.

What Others Have Said

Angela’s story is heartbreaking and her truth is inspiring

I couldn’t put it down. The story paints a vivid and accurate picture of living through abuse. Angela’s bravery and raw honesty about her experience conveys the message, loud and clear, “Survivor, you are not alone, and you don’t have to remain a victim. There is hope.” Beautifully written, insightful, and informative.

A Riveting Memoir

Angela shares her story with raw transparency. I would recommend this book to anyone, but especially to those who are currently living with verbal, physical, or sexual abuse. Or to anyone else who is second guessing themselves , believing that this kind of life is normal or what they deserve.

Excellent read!

Highly recommend. As a survivor of domestic violence it is a healing experience to read about others who get out and become the shining stars that they were meant to be. I had a hard time putting this book down.
