For years, I thought I didn’t have anyone to turn to. I had been isolated from my family members and didn’t really have any friends. I was completely alone.
Except, I wasn’t. It’s taken a long time for me to realize how many people there actually were that I could have turned to. But when you’re in the middle of all the pain and fear, it’s hard to see that there ARE friends AND strangers waiting to help.
Even if you think you can’t find a single soul to turn to, there is still help. These days, there are more and more shelters for women and children who are in abusive situations. And because of rising awareness, many people know who run the local shelters*.
You’re not alone. Reach out. Call the police station. Just ask someone. There IS help.
Did you know?
“In 2008, there were 569 shelters across Canada providing residential services to women and children escaping abusive situations.” Read more here – http://www.justice.gov.yk.ca/prog/cor/vs/abusestats.html
