20 Beautiful Things I Love About My Life

For this week’s Love Thursday, I thought I’d share about what I love about my life, why I call this blog “this woman’s beautiful life.” You see, I’m not financially comfortable (not even close, says the unemployed woman), and things haven’t always been easy for me (and still aren’t, but I’m conquering those demons every day), but I love my life all the same.

1 - I am a child of God.

2 - I have an amazing husband who loves me and treats me with respect.

3 - I have three beautiful children who are AMAZING, each in their own way.

4 - My dog adores me. He’s the best!

5 - Two funny kitties live here — one mine, one my son’s. They provide so much humor.

6 - I live in beautiful Colorado! I chose this! It happened!

7 - We recently got to move into a house that I love, and I have a wonderful view of Pikes Peak and plenty of room for a studio and my husband’s art studio.

8 - I have a great many friends, who — though online only — delight me every day with their warmth and humor.

9 - In my “real” life, I have several people who are beautiful and caring and funny.

10 - I have wood to heat my home, electricity to see by, and phone/DSL service to be able to connect with others.

11 - We live in a wonderful small town with a great school system for my kids.

12 - I am able to attend college!

13 - I’ve been blessed with so many talents that I am learning to use fearlessly.

14 - My bills are (currently) all paid.

15 - We have two working vehicles, one of which was a true blessing in our lives. (Ask me to re-tell that story sometime.)

16 - Even if we didn’t, we live in a community where we could walk if we needed to, without fear, and without keeling over from having to go so far.

17 - The sun shines here all the time! Like, sometimes even during the snow, the sun is shining. Gray days are few and far between.

18 - I love that if I want to get out of the house, there are CHOICES that are FREE! Beauty surrounds me.

19 - I love that I’ve been through so many experiences that I have something to share to help others.

20 - I love all of you, my readers, my visitors…who take the time to come in and see me, see what I have to say, what photos I have to share. Thank you!

It’s too easy these days to focus on what we don’t have in life, what we want but don’t get. Let’s try to remember what we love about our lives.

What beautiful things do you have in your life?

My boy…

My young man, slowly growing up before my very eyes. He’s the second-born son, so you’d think it wouldn’t take me by surprise, this turn of events where he gets taller, his voice deepens, and his words become more sage, and yet…

On the way home from yet another shift of Taxi Mom, we talked about jobs. Stopped at a red light, I pointed to Wendy’s across the intersection.

“Guess I’ll apply there tomorrow,” I said, jabbing him. He has a preference for McDonald’s.

“Yeah, but what are you going to college for, anyway?” he asked. “What kind of job will you get after you’re done?”

“I’m going for photography…art,” I said.

“So you will be a photographer? Yeah, but will you show up when it’s time to take pictures?”

Ouch.

“Yes, because I love to do that.”

But the boy knows me too well.

“You have a bad habit of not wanting to go anywhere, though. I’m surprised you’re still in college.”

Alas, he is my most honest child, unafraid to share his thoughts with me. I encourage it, though we have worked over the years on how to be kind and honest at the same time.

“I’m also editing my novel,” I said. I do want him to be proud of his mother.

“You can’t just write a book and hope people find it,” he said. “What are you going to do to sell it?”

I was speechless. He’s 14 still, right? OK, check, he is. What the…?

“You have to get your name out there. Are you sending out the other book? The one you won’t let me read about your life?” *

“Oh, that was a personal project,” I said.

“So you aren’t getting it in stores where people can find it? You built a site and people want it. Can they get it?”

Speechless again. I don’t know what to do with that!

“Well, you keep writing. And get your name out there. You won’t make it if you don’t, Mom.”

That’s my child, my boy full of wisdom. Kids surprise you. There’s never a dull moment being a mother. I love his honesty. I love his advice.

I love him.

A katrillion and one reasons to love her

This morning, I started a new project. I started a journal to trade back and forth with my daughter. She is a truly delightful young lady, and she is now at an age where too many outside forces can affect her thoughts on who she is, what she’s like, how she looks, etc.

nowandthen

I want her to know she’s wonderful just the way she is, but most of all, that she is loved.

And of the katrillion and one reasons why I love her, her sense of humor is one of the top reasons. She’s game to play with me any time I ask (okay, almost anytime…sometimes she has things she has to do).

Dear daughter, you are wonderful, beautiful, kind, loving, sweet, funny, and on and on. Perfect the way you are!
