We woke up to rain on our anniversary. “It’s OK,” I said, “It’ll go away soon. It doesn’t rain for long in Colorado!”
Ha. Those are the very words that bit me in the butt last year when a dear friend was visiting, and instead of a little rain, we found ourselves soaked from the downpour that seemed to have no ending.
Those are the very words that bit me in the butt again this year.
It did not stop raining here. It did not stop raining there. It did not stop raining anywhere. Apparently, much of the whole state and surrounding states were getting a little bit of rain. Of course. Why WOULDN’T it rain when we have plans to camp out? In the outside. Where it rains!
We would not, however, be discouraged. No rain could, err, rain on our parade. Onward we drove, toward Estes Park, where lo and behold…it was still raining!

Much of the rest of the day was more of a study on the rain, so let’s skip ahead to The Stanley Hotel, and then we’ll u-turn another day to speak of more rain, the cold, hard ground of the tent, or better yet, The Rocky Mountain National Forest.

I hope you dance”

Vacation Day Five
A couple of last-minute-get-ready-for-school errands, and then the husband suggested we go for a drive. We thought we’d stay home on this day, but wanderlust got the best of us.
A drive to Deckers and beyond –
Site of The Hayman Fire, 2002, one of the worst fires ever in Colorado. The land is still scarred and still covered in upright dead trees.

Vacation Day Four
Oklahoma! That’s where we went. Or rather, to SEE Oklahoma! on stage at the Butte Theatre in Cripple Creek. As photos were not allowed, I have none to share. (Though the review for the paper should appear soon and I’ll share once it is.) Instead, I share just a few various shots taken after and on the way home.

Vacation Day Three
On this day, we decided to conquer The Barr Trail (cue dramatic music). Of course, by CONQUER, I mean…see how far we can get before someone whines about being tired, hot, or something involving craziness on our part. The Barr Trail, you see, goes all the way to the summit of Pikes Peak. It is not for the weak…or whiny.
